A 19th-century manuscript copy of a collection of charters of the Benedictine abbey of Saint Vincent de Le Mans, in France, compiled by Bishop Geoffroi Freslon (who held the post from 1260-1274). The charters range in date from the bishopric of Guillaume de Passavant (1142-1186) up to 1270, and are primarily concerned with the arrangement of gifts, taxes, and tithes to the abbey from other churches and individuals. The charter texts are in Latin and in ink, with notes about each charter in French and pencil, on ruled paper, bound in modern boards. The copy is of the third section of Bibliothèque Nationale Manuscript 5444, known as Rotuli or Rouleaux because it transcribes the contents of 24 rolls lettered A-Z. Manuscript 5444 is an 18th-century copy of these documents, made by François-Roger de Gaignières; this 19th-century copy was made by or for the vicomte Samuel Georges Jean Maurice Menjot d'Elbenne, editor of a published edition of the first section of Manuscript 5444, who borrowed the 18th-century manuscript in 1889.
